We believe all of Chicagoland has a stake in ending gun violence and that by working together, we can build a Chicago where all can thrive, free from the fear of gun violence.
Central to the Race Against Gun Violence (RAGV) is the goal to build capacity, promote collaboration and choose hope. The RAGV is the rallying point to raise funds for and awareness about what is being done to end gun violence and build Chicago’s future. Especially during this time of Covid-19, RAGV provides a dynamic platform for runners to build a virtual community, “visit” neighborhoods across Chicago and connect directly with community organizations to learn about and support their work.

We believe everyone has a stake in ending gun violence. The Why I Run campaign highlights personal stories that give real-life insights into the people working for a peaceful Chicago.
The Race Against Gun Violence has always been a metaphor for what drives and inspires people in the fight against gun violence, and this campaign gives voice to a wide spectrum of how gun violence impacts people and our society: parents, physicians, teachers and youth. Follow #WhyIRun on social media and consider creating your own #WhyIRun video.

WHY: We believe everyone has a stake in ending gun violence and the Why I Run campaign highlights personal stories providing real life insight into the people who are working for a peaceful Chicago. RAGV has always been a metaphor for what drives and inspires people in the fight against gun violence, and this campaign gives voice to a wide spectrum of how gun violence impacts people and our society: parents, physicians, teachers and youth.
WHAT: Each week, we will feature one, produced Why I Run story as part of our RAGV engagement campaign. These highlights will be short -- 15-60 seconds -- but powerfully convey the impact of gun violence as well as the motivation to create a Chicago where all can thrive, free from fear. In addition to the produced Why I Run stories, Strides for Peace will encourage all participants in Race Against Gun Violence to share their #WhyIRun stories to build a virtual community of people seeking change and increase understanding for those who have not been directly impacting by gun violence.
HOW: The following are experiences and dreams to explore while answering the question why you run in the race against gun violence:
What was the experience or insight that gun violence impacted your life?
If you’ve personally lost to gun violence, how do you carry on, heal?
Beyond your personal experience, why do you believe it is so important to end gun violence?
What are your dreams related to a city free from the fear of gun violence? What does that feel, look like?
